If the weather shows a change to normal levels, then the pupils will return to their classrooms the following day, based on current assessments, the department said in a statement.
The meteorological department (MetMalaysia) said a Level 2 heatwave was recorded at 4pm at four districts in Kedah — Baling, Pendang, Pokok Sena and Kota Setar.
A Level 1 hot weather alert was issued for Bandar Baharu, Kulim, Kuala Muda, Sik, Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu and Pulau Langkawi in Kedah, and also in Perlis; Seberang Perai Utara (Penang); Kuala Kangsar, Kinta and Hulu Perak (Perak); as well as Lubok Antu in Sarawak.
MetMalaysia issues a Level 2 heatwave alert when daily maximum temperatures range from 37 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius, while Level 1 involves temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
