KUCHING (Feb 15): Kuching South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng has expressed disappointment over improper disposal of spring cleaning waste by the public, despite the placement of Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) bins in strategic areas.
In a statement, Wee said some sites were recently found littered with rubbish left outside the containers, prompting immediate clean-up operations by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) workers.
“It is disheartening to see waste intentionally left outside the containers when proper facilities have been provided.
“As we prepare for the celebrations, let’s ensure our city is orderly, healthy, and vibrant for all residents,” he said.
He emphasised that everyone shares the responsibility to keep Kuching South clean.
“Improper disposal practices, including throwing waste outside the containers or rummaging through discarded items, create an eyesore and may lead to unhygienic conditions and the spread of disease,” he said.
Wee said the initiative to place RoRo bins reflects the council’s ongoing commitment to urban cleanliness, particularly during festive seasons when domestic cleaning intensifies.
He reminded the residents to ensure that all waste is placed properly inside the bins, and to work alongside the council in upholding community cleanliness.
