In Kuching, man fined RM2,000 in total for keeping stolen AirPods, not having MyKad

KUCHING (July 19): A 28-year-old man was fined a total of RM2,000 in default four months in jail by the Magistrates’ Court here today for retaining stolen AirPods Pro and failing to produce his identity card when requested by the authorities.

Fleezzender Kelvin Chungin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to the first charge framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code and the second charge under Regulation 25(1)(n) of the National Regulations 1990.

He was fined RM1,500 In default three months’ jail for the first charge and RM500 in default one month in jail for the second charge.

Fleezzender committed both offences at Kuching Sentral car park at around 9.30pm on July 13.

Based on the facts of the case, on July 11 at around 11pm, a 36-year-old woman was fuelling her car at a petrol station in MJC Batu Kawa here.

When she entered her car, she found that her handbag, which was placed between the driver’s and front passenger’s seat was missing, believed to have been stolen by an unknown man.

Her handbag contained some personal items and documents, with the estimated loss at RM10,000.

The woman subsequently filed a police report that led to Fleezzender’s arrest at the Kuching Sentral car park.

During his arrest, the police seized the stolen AirPods Pro and two knives.

The investigation found that the stolen AirPods Pro belonged to the woman and she confirmed they were hers.

Fleezzender also failed to produce his identification card during his arrest.

ASP Arman Ibrahim prosecuted the case while Fleezzender did not have legal representation.
