ADVERTISE HERE
MIRI (Aug 6): The inaugural ‘WAK x Miri’ gathered over 30,000 visitors from Aug 1 to 4 at Coco Cabana here.
Taking on the concept of the well-established and highly popular ‘What About Kuching’ (WAK) Festival in the state capital, Datuk Sebastian Ting commended the event for being expanded to Miri, positively impacting the city’s creative industry.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts said such events that focus on creative arts serve as a platform for youths unveil their talents and boost their entrepreneurial skills.
“For its first Miri edition, we started small for only four days. From what I’ve gathered, the response from the crowd and sales by the vendors were positive.
“There were approximately over 40 vendors participating in this inaugural event with a majority of them being aged 16 to 35 years old. It’s wonderful to see a supportive crowd,” said the Piasau assemblyman during the closing ceremony of the festival on Sunday.
Among those present were festival director Donald Tan, manager Brendan Chin, and Miri Mayor Adam Yii.
