KUCHING (July 17): A pastor from the sub-district of Ulu Trusan in Lawas, Jonatan Labo, was announced as the 101st winner of Bank Simpanan Nasional’s (BSN) Premium Savings Certificate (SSP) lucky draw contest, pocketing a sum of RM1 million.

The 62-year-old from Kampung Purusia, who said he initially sceptical upon learning that he had won the RM1 million prize, pledged to give 10 per cent of his winnings to the church.

“Regarding my future plans for the money, I think I will place them in my savings account first before deciding how best to use them,” he told reporters during the symbolic presentation ceremony here today.

Residing in the small town of Ulu Trusan, Jonatan said his savings account was opened at BSN branch in Lawas and that he would make the over-three-hour journey there each month via logging roads.

The father-of-six and grandfather-of four also said he plans to share his newfound fortune with his siblings, as well as channelling the money into a business.

Another winner, Peter Ngumbang Guyu who lives in Kota Samarahan, received a brand new Perodua Myvi 1.5 as part of BSN’s monthly lucky draw contest for June.

The 60-year-old retired firefighter said he had initially ignored BSN’s repeated attempts to call him as he was wary about answering calls from unknown numbers.

“Even after answering the call, I was really afraid they were scammers until I came to the branch in Satok,” he said.

Hailing from Betong, Peter last served at the Batu Niah fire station.

With his birthday coming up on Sept 3, the lucky winner said considers his new car as an early birthday present, and is looking forward to taking it for a spin around the city.
