SIBU (July 19): The International Puppet Therapy and Pedagogy Conference, in conjunction with the International Conference on Education and Culture 2024, is set to take place at Methodist Pilley Institute here on August 10 and 11.
Conference organising chairman Dr Loy Chee Luen from the Malaysian Puppetry Association said participants could learn and gain valuable insights and techniques for incorporating puppet therapy into their own practice, whether they work with children, adults or groups.
“The International Puppet Therapy and Pedagogy Conference 2024 is a powerful tool that harnesses the magic of play for healing and growth,” he told a press conference here today.
“Puppetry has been used for centuries to address a variety of challenges from childhood anxieties to social skills development, while creating a safe space for self-expression and allowing users to explore difficult emotions and situations indirectly,” he said.
Four speakers and experts in their fields will be featured at the conference – Dr Loy himself from Malaysia, Wanlu Lunaria from the Philippines, Cheung Chun-fai from Hong Kong and Amit Tanwar from India, to give talks and demonstrations.
Conference registration is still open to the public, offering an early bird offer of RM360 for non-Sarawakian, and RM80 for Sarawakian.
The early bird ends this August 5, after which the normal registration price will be RM500 for non-Sarawakian, and RM120 for Sarawakian.
