Man fined RM1,000 for damaging Petra Jaya service centre’s signboard

KUCHING (July 5): The Magistrates’ Court here today fined a 26-year-old man RM1,000 in default one month in prison for damaging a signboard belonging to the Petra Jaya parliamentary service centre.

Laniaz Nidiba Zainalabidin from Kampung Tupong Batu pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to a charge framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

According to the facts of the case, he committed the act at 2.20pm yesterday.

A police report led to his arrest and the seizure of a metal rod.

The police investigation revealed Laniaz used the metal rod he picked up from the roadside to strike the centre’s office door, which resulted in the signboard getting damaged.

It was estimated that the value of losses was RM150.

Two witnesses present during the incident recognised Laniaz as he was often seen in the area over the past year.

Insp Ammarsoffi Yusoff prosecuted the case while Laniaz was unrepresented by legal counsel.
