Man in Kuching fined RM2,500 for drug abuse three years ago

KUCHING (July 19): The Magistrates’ Court here today fined a 46-year-old man RM2,500 in default four months in prison for abusing amphetamine and methamphetamine three years ago.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali convicted Harrisman Abdul Hamid on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.

The Section carries a jail sentence of up to two years, or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, and immediate supervision for a period not exceeding three years.

The court also ordered for him to undergo supervision for two years.

He committed the offence at Kuching District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department around 3.30pm on May 20, 2021.

Harrisman tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, which are listed in the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

ASP Arman Ibrahim prosecuted the case while Harrisman was unrepresented by legal counsel.
