MIRI (Aug 6): The Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 arrested a man and seized a lorry tanker carrying about 5,000 litres of diesel during an ‘Op Taring Kontraban’ operation yesterday.

Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said during the 12.30pm operation, the marine police team stopped a lorry tanker by the roadside near Mile 8, Lambir Miri-Bintulu road.

“Upon checking, the driver admitted to transporting the diesel without any documents.

“He also failed to produce any documents related to the diesel,” he said in a statement today.

As such, Alexson said that the man had committed an offence under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

He said the lorry tanker, valued at about RM95,000, and the fuel worth RM19,000, were later impounded and handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Miri for further action.
