KUCHING (Aug 4): A new design for a billboard located at Jalan Rock here will be put up by next week after the current one featuring various major upcoming and ongoing events has received brickbats on social media, said Datuk Wee Hong Seng,

Acknowledging the online criticism towards the design, the Kuching South Mayor said the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has taken immediate action by instructing for a new design to be drafted.

“Some people said we are trying to save costs by having the current design featuring multiple major events. This one we have to admit and we also have to admit the current design is a bit messy.

“I think it is a lesson that we have learnt while we are trying to save costs,” said Wee when asked to comment on the matter after officiating a fitness challenge programme held at MBKS garden park here today.

Wee explained that the council has a limited budget for new billboard designs, costing between RM800 and RM1,000 each, due to the many ongoing and upcoming events, festivals, and celebrations in Sarawak, including Sarawak Day, National Day, Kuching City Day, the Kuching Festival food fair, and the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma).

Emphasising that MBKS welcomes constructive feedback, Wee assured that a new billboard design for Jalan Rock is currently being finalised.

He also welcomes the public to submit their creative designs to the council for any major festivities, adding that MBKS remains one of the most reachable councils for public feedback.
