SIBU (July 6): The police arrested three individuals and issued 138 summonses for various traffic offences during Ops Samseng Jalanan at Jalan Awang Ramli Amit and Dataran Sibu areas.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said 89 men and three women also underwent checks during the operation, which ran from 9pm on Friday to 3am this morning.

“Of the individuals, three of them, aged 19 to 29, were detained,” he said in a statement.

Zulkipli said two men were arrested under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving, while a man was apprehended under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for forgery of registration numbers.

On the summonses, he said they were issued for various offences such as having no driver’s licence, modifications on exhaust, having no side mirror, having fancy plat numbers, expiry of motor vehicle licence, underage driving and structural modifications on vehicles.

“A total of 37 motorcycles were also impounded,” said Zulkipli, also reminding parents to always monitor their children’s activities to prevent them from being involved in illegal activities.
