KUCHING (Aug 6): The Kuching Zumba Fiesta (KZF) 2024 organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) recorded a turnout of more than 3,000 people.

Guided by 48 trained Zumba coaches, the participants danced non-stop for more than an hour throughout the session at the Jubilee Ground here on Sunday night.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian highlighted KZF 2024 as a platform for promoting inclusivity and celebrating a shared commitment to health and wellness.

“The Sarawak government is committed to promoting public health and well-being. We support initiatives that encourage our citizens to lead active and healthy lifestyles, and the Kuching Zumba Fiesta aligns perfectly with our vision of a healthy Sarawak,” he said.

Adding on, Dr Sim – also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government – commended the organiser for implementing sustainable practices in the event.

“I encourage everyone to stay engaged with upcoming health and fitness programmes organised by the MBKS and the Sarawak government.”

Moreover, he emphasised the importance of regular physical activities for maintaining good health, stating that Zumba – a form of dance exercise – could help boost cardiovascular endurance and thus, improve healthy functioning of the heart.

“Engaging in any physical activity, such as Zumba, releases endorphins that can alleviate stress, anxiety and depression. Furthermore, events like this Zumba Fiesta can foster deeper community spirit and strengthen social bonds.

“They provide a platform for people from all walks of life to come together, promote inclusivity, and celebrate our shared commitment to health and wellness.”

Also present were Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng and deputy mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili, KZF 2024 organising chairwoman Councillor Judy Kho, and MBKS councillors.
