KUCHING: Cooperation of commercial banks are needed as various economic developments are taking place in Sarawak.

In stating this, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that developments include the maintenance and construction of the road network, the supply of building materials and many more.

“We (Sarawak government) want small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) other than the food industry to also be involved in this economic activity,” he said as reported by TVS.

He said this in a press conference with Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) and TVS after witnessing the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Sarawak Government and Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) at the Affin Tower’s auditorium here on Friday.

As Affin Bank is the commercial bank that Sarawak is eyeing for, he said that the said bank is able to support the growth of the SMEs in Sarawak that are involved as vendors in the growing green economy in the region.

“The hydrogen industry for example, needs the services of vendors for maintenance while the methanol plant also depends on the engineering expertise supplied by the SME vendor.

“They (vendors) need capital and this is where the bank can (help) to (continue) to grow,” he said.
