KUCHING, Aug 4: There are no problems between the Sarawak government and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) on the gas distribution matter, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari said there is nothing to negotiate about, and it is just a matter of law.
According to him, there is an existing agreement with the present buyers, especially in liquefied natural gas (LNG).
“So, for us to implement it (takeover), they’re asking for a three-month period for them to talk to their buyer. There’s no problem, actually,” he said.
Abang Johari was responding to reporters’ questions regarding a news report by Bloomberg saying that Sarawak is pushing for control of gas resources as part of its quests for autonomy.
On the news report by Bloomberg, Abang Johari said he doesn’t pay mind to what is being reported because the facts are there.
“Actually, it’s straightforward. It’s just that we give them time to talk to their buyer,” he added.
On July 28, Abang Johari said PETRONAS had been given three months to resolve the gas distribution issues in light of Sarawak-owned company Petroleum Sarawak Berhad’s (Petros) appointment as the sole aggregator on gas sales. — DayakDaily
