MIRI (Aug 6): The works on SK Rancangan Sepupok and an access road in Subis are nearing completion, the Public Works Department (JKR) has announced.
According to the department, the progress of both projects stands at over 90 per cent.
On the primary school project, the works cover the construction of six classrooms, eight units of teacher’s quarters, hostel blocks, a dining hall and other facilities, meant to benefit some 200 pupils.
This was highlighted in a press statement yesterday, released in connection with the inspection on the project site by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.
He was accompanied by an entourage that also included Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, and JKR Sarawak director Dr Cassidy Morris.
“The progress of works for this project is now 95.25 per cent. It is commissioned by the state government, meant to fully replace the dilapidated classrooms, teachers’ living units, the hostels and other facilities of this school.
“It should enhance the environment for teaching and learning, encourage the growth and development of the schoolchildren, and also strengthen local engagement and investment in education,” said JKR in the statement.
Aidel, Rosey and Cassidy also conducted an inspection of the access road project, involving rehabilitation works on the 15km stretch linking to the Sepupok Settlement Scheme.
“For this project, progress is at 91.25 per cent towards completion, after which it should benefit some 3,000 people comprising those from 12 longhouses, SK Rancangan Sepupok, and two secondary schools in the area, namely SMK Subis and SMK Suai.
“The works are meant to improve the aspects of safety, accessibility and durability of this access road,” said JKR.
The works on the road kicked off on Feb 13, with the contractor set to hand over the project to the community by this Aug 12.
