SIBU (July 18): Rajang Port Authority (RPA) continued to register a profit in 2023 of slightly over RM6 million, said its acting general manager Hayati Kiprawi.
She attributed the success to the hard work and support of its staff.
“Having said that, I am glad to report that in 2024, Rajang Port Authority started strong.
“For the first five months of 2024, the Authority recorded an increase in cargo throughput, handling 617,325 tonnes against 578,298 tonnes in 2023 representing an increase of 6.7 per cent.
“Last year, operationally, Rajang Port Authority handled a total of 1.4 million tonnes of cargo at its wharves. Comparing this with the total cargo handled in 2022, this represents a slight decrease in throughput at 5.8 per cent for the year,” said Hayati at RPA’s annual dinner here on Wednesday night, graced by RPA chairman Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum.
“Financially, the Authority continued to record another profit for 2023, an amount of slightly over RM6 million.
“All this is possible with the continued support by all of you, the workforce of Rajang Port Authority, and our customers who have given us the confidence to push ourselves, pass challenges and complexities, consistently year after year,” she said.
Given the good financial performance, she added, RPA will continue to support local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) with some financial assistance as part of its corporate social responsibility programme for the people of Sibu.
“And we hope this assistance would help the NGOs (our unsung heroes) in their noble cause.”
