KUCHING: Sarawak and Sabah have taken a step forward in modernising their judicial processes by implementing the Electronic Plead Guilty (e-PG) system through their own e-PG module, e-Kehakiman Sabah and Sarawak (e-KSS).

The High Courts of Sabah and Sarawak said the innovative system allows individuals charged with 42 minor traffic offences to electronically enter a guilty plea.

“The e-PG platform offers a secure, user-friendly interface that guides summoned persons through the process of pleading guilty online.

“By allowing the summoned persons to resolve their cases remotely, the platform aims to save time, reduce court congestion, and provide a more convenient option for individuals who might otherwise face challenges attending court in person.

“This enhances efficiency and accessibility while reducing the need for in-person court appearances,” the high courts said in a statement yesterday (July 18).

The introduction of e-PG in Sarawak began on July 18 at the Magistrates Courts of Bintulu and Miri.

Meanwhile, in Sabah, the first use of the e-PG system was on July 17 at the Magistrates Court of Kota Kinabalu.

This move follows the initial introduction of the e-PG system by the Malaysian Judiciary at the Magistrates Court of Shah Alam on Feb 5, 2021.
