KUCHING (July 17): The Sarawak archery team are currently training at the Nilai Archery Range in Negeri Sembilan as part of their preparations for the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) which will be held in Sarawak from Aug 17-24.
Team coach Jaffery Low said the team’s preparations are going smoothly, although there are still some aspects that need improvement.
“So far, only a few aspects need fine-tuning in the team’s efforts to achieve the set targets,” he told Bernama.
Wei Loon also expressed his confidence in the athletes’ ability to maintain and improve on their personal bests.
“I hope everyone can maintain and improve their personal bests. I am confident they can win medals. What we have right now is already quite good,” he said.
The archery competition will be held at the Petra Jaya Archery Range in the Kuching Division for six days from Aug 18-23.
Sukma 2024 will feature 37 types of sports with 488 events, comprising 236 men’s events, 217 women’s events, and 35 mixed-gender events. The competition will take place across nine divisions – Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu and Miri.
Sukma, introduced in 1986, has been hosted by Sarawak twice before, in 1990 and 2016. – Bernama
