This surpasses last year’s biggest haul of RM8.53 million, says state police commissioner Zainal Abdullah.

Sarawak police made the largest drug bust in the state’s history early this month, seizing drugs worth about RM16.21 million in a single case.
State police commissioner Zainal Abdullah said the seizure, which surpassed last year’s highest haul of RM8.53 million, came from one of two separate cases.
“The drugs seized in the first case were worth RM16,216,450, while those in the second case were worth RM576,450,” Borneo Post reported him as saying.
In the first case, police raided a homestay in Santubong on April 7 and arrested a man and a woman aged 41 and 31.
“The arrests led to the seizure of 107.5kg of MDMA, 1.28kg of ketamine, 180g of Erimin 5 pills, 102g of ecstasy pills, and 28g of methamphetamine, along with equipment used for distribution.
“The drugs were estimated to be enough for 16,952 users,” Zainal said.
He said the couple worked for a drug syndicate, earning a monthly salary of RM3,000 and a commission of RM5 per packet. They rented homestays to pack the drugs before distributing them based on orders received via WhatsApp.
He said the syndicate was believed to have been active since early April, and that efforts were ongoing to track down other members.
“The woman has a criminal record of three drug-related offences. However, both tested negative for drugs,” he said.
In the second case, police arrested two men, aged 28 and 38, in an operation near Jalan Setia Raja, Kuching, on April 19.
“We found 1,281 vape cartridges suspected to contain liquid cannabis, weighing a total of 3.2kg. The items were estimated to have a market value of RM576,450,” he said.
Zainal said the men worked as runners and transporters and were paid RM8,000 per delivery. They are believed to have been active since November 2025.
“They also used homestays for storage and packing, and courier services for delivery. Both suspects had no prior records and tested negative for drugs,” he said, adding that a vehicle worth RM12,000 was also seized.
