Sarawak DAP has full autonomy to determine its strategy and candidates for the coming state polls, says DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook.
He said Sarawak DAP has a better understanding of the political dynamics in the state.
“They have their plans. I will not interfere,” he said in Kuching today, according to Utusan Malaysia.
Loke said Sarawak DAP will announce its strategy and candidates once Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg announces the dissolution of the state assembly.
DAP performed strongly in the 2011 state election, winning 12 seats, but support for the party has since declined sharply.
It now holds two seats in the 82-seat state assembly – Pending (Violet Yong) and Padungan (Chong Chieng Jen) while the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak controls the remaining 80.
The state assembly’s current term ends next February unless dissolved earlier. Elections must be held within 60 days after dissolution, at the latest by next April.
Last month, GPS chairman Abang Johari said the coalition will field candidates in all seats.
