KUCHING, Jan 21: The Sarawak government has implemented 42 Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) projects in Mukah Division to date to improve housing facilities and basic infrastructure for local communities.
According to a TVS report, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the initiative aims to provide more organised housing and better basic amenities, particularly for low income groups.
“SPK programmes and resettlement schemes have been implemented since the era of the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud to help low-income groups and squatter communities own legal, safe and comfortable residential land,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tellian Tengah Village Expansion Scheme Phase 1 in Mukah, as well as the handover of the Bumiputera Communal Reserve Gazette (Agriculture) under Section 6 and land titles under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code at CENTEXS Mukah yesterday (Jan 20).
Awang Tengah added that a total of 53 housing development projects have been implemented in Mukah Division so far, comprising 42 SPK projects and 11 resettlement scheme projects in Dalat, Daro, Matu and Tanjung Manis. Some of the projects have been completed, while others are still under implementation.
He said although development costs for each lot could reach up to RM150,000, the Sarawak government continues to enhance specifications through the construction of paved roads, concrete drains and complete basic amenities to ensure a better of quality of life for beneficiaries.
To ease the financial burden on the people, Awang Tengah said the State government has reduced land premiums and allowed payment by instalments.
“The selection of recipients is carried out transparently by community committees at the divisional and district levels to ensure that assistance is channelled to those who are truly eligible,” he explained. — DayakDaily
