SIBU (Aug 24): Sarawak badminton mixed doubles pair Jeremy Juan Zhen Liang-Genevie Lim lost their shot for the bronze medal after being defeated by Selangor’s Mohamad Haris Sufian Shazlan-Wong Zi Yi at the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI) today.

Jeremy and Genevie, who put up a riveting fight in front of some 2,000 spectators, lost at the rubber set with the final score of 21–23 against the Selangor pair.

In the first set, Sarawak lost with a 3-point margin with a score of 18 – 21.

They bounced back at the second set of the game and won the set with the score of 21–11 forcing the game into a rubber set.

However, the pair was unable to win in the rubber set.

Earlier, Sarawak made history to clinch their first-ever gold medal in women’s singles badminton when Wong Ling Ching defeated Penang’s Oo Shan Zi in a straight set with the score of 21–12 and 21–15.
