Sejingkat Bridge set for early October opening as final works underway

KUCHING, Sept 18: The Sejingkat Bridge project has entered its final stage of implementation and is expected to open to road users in early October 2026.

In a post shared on its social media on Thursday (Sept 17), Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak director Datu Ir Cassidy Morris said the project was now undergoing final works, with efforts focused on ensuring the overall readiness of the bridge, related facilities and safety aspects ahead of its opening to the public.

This follows Cassidy’s site visit to the project to review its latest development and physical progress, particularly the remaining works on the bridge structure and associated facilities.

Measuring 1,281.2 metres in total length, the dual two-lane bridge is being constructed according to JKR R5 standards and is regarded as an important infrastructure project to strengthen the road network and improve connectivity in Kuching and surrounding areas.

The main structure comprises a cable-stayed bridge with three spans measuring 200 metres, 400 metres and 200 metres respectively.

The project also includes the construction of six prestressed concrete T-girder spans, each measuring 40 metres, on the Tanjung Bako and Sejingkat sides.

Upon opening, the Sejingkat Bridge is expected to provide an alternative route for road users, help improve traffic flow and enhance connectivity between Sejingkat, Tanjung Bako and surrounding areas.

The project is also expected to strengthen links between communities and areas on both sides of the bridge, providing an additional route as traffic demand in and around Kuching continues to grow. — DayakDaily
