SERIAN: Students are advised to meticulously verify the authenticity of diploma or degree courses, especially those offered by private universities.

Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot emphasised that school leavers are typically eager to pursue higher education and are often presented with opportunities to enrol in matriculation colleges or Form Six.

However, for those aiming to advance to diploma or higher levels, he stressed the importance of ensuring that the courses offered are recognised by the government and have good marketability.

“From my over 30 years of experience in politics, I want to share some advice.

“The moment SPM results are released, various private colleges and universities will start making offers.

“All these institutions have certificates to operate, but be cautious and ensure that the courses they offer, whether certificates, diplomas, or degrees, are recognised by the government and are marketable,” Riot said.

He said this when officiating at a presentation ceremony for incentives awarded to excellent Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) students from the Serian parliamentary constituency at Roxy Hotel today.

The ceremony celebrated 57 students who achieved 5As and above, with a total incentive amounting to RM20,100.

Riot noted that despite the schools being located in rural areas, the SPM performance for the constituency in 2023 was the best so far.

He praised the dedication and efforts of the teachers and the support from parents that contributed to the students’ excellent results.

“And today, they are receiving these incentives as my recognition of their efforts,” he added.
