KUCHING (July 20): Several roads in Bintulu will be closed on Monday, July 22 to make way for the state-level Sarawak Day celebration.
According to Bintulu district police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali, the road closures will start from 5pm to 12am.
This, he said, is to facilitate the smooth running of the celebration’s activities at the old Bintulu Airport grounds.
The roads that will be closed are the road entering Jalan Abang Galau located at the left side of the old airport grounds until the traffic light junction at Jalan Paragon; from the traffic light junction near to Public Works Department (JKR) building towards the traffic light junction at Jalan Sultan Iskandar; and from Jalan Tun Razak until the traffic light junction heading towards Parkcity.
“The public are urged to use alternative routes when driving in the city and with that said, road closures and their reopenings will depend on the actual situation during the day’s celebration,” said Nixon.
“Drone operators are required to first obtain approvals from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, as well as comply with the instructions of the police stationed at the scene,” he said and warned the public against flying their drones without permission during the celebration.
“A total of 410 police personnel comprising 31 senior officers and 379 officers of various ranks will be on duty during the day to ensure the state-level Sarawak Day celebration can be hosted without any untoward incident.”
