SIBU: The Rejang Port Authority (RPA) donated RM12,000 through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme to support six local non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The recipients were Sibu Kidney Foundation, Association For Children with Special Needs, Lembaga Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Sarawak, Methodist Children’s Home, Rumah Seri Kenangan and Sibu Benevolent Society.

According to its acting general manager Hayati Kiprawi, the donations are an effort  to give back to the people, especially to the people of Sibu.

“This year, RPA continues to support the local NGOs with some financial assistance, and we hope this assistance will make it possible for the NGOs, our unsung heroes in their noble cause,” she said in her welcoming speech during the RPA annual dinner, which was officiated by RPA chairman Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum at a leading hotel here, last night (July 17).

The donation of RM2,000 for each NGO, was presented by Salang.

Meanwhile, on RPA, Hayati said the authority, which was set up in 1971, started with only a small number of staff and a small wharf to serve the people of Sibu and its hinterlands.

“Today, RPA is a statutory body with assets in the hundreds of millions and a total staff strength of more than 250 in its employment,” she added.
