Stealing health supplements, bird’s nests from Kuching pharmacy sees man jailed

KUCHING (July 5): The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a man to two months in jail for stealing three boxes of health supplements and a box of bird’s nests worth RM525.60 in total from a pharmacy here on June 23.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan convicted Tiong Pak Ing @ Wong Pak Ing, 48, on his own guilty plea to a charge framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

He committed the offence at a pharmacy located at Jalan Tun Jugah at 6.38pm on June 23.

According to the facts of the case, a worker at the pharmacy spotted Tiong acting suspiciously and decided to keep a close eye on him.

Realising he was being closely monitored, Tiong suddenly darted out of the premises with the items in his bag and fled into a car.

The theft was recorded by the premises’ closed circuit television camera and he was arrested on the same day.

He was also identified in the identification parade report.

It is understood that Tiong stole the items from the pharmacy with the intention to sell them to another person.

Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while Tiong did not have legal representation.
