Temporary water fix eases low-pressure woes at Kenyalang Food Centre

KUCHING, Sept 18: A temporary reconnection carried out by Sarawak Water has improved water pressure at the Kenyalang Food Centre here, addressing complaints from hawkers and traders who had been experiencing low pressure, particularly after 5pm.

In a press release, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the council and Sarawak Water agreed on the solution after discussions earlier this week.

The reconnection works were carried out today through an existing connection near the food centre, with Sarawak Water replacing and installing the necessary connection points.

Wee said hawkers and traders had initially raised concerns over inadequate water pressure, prompting him to visit the food centre last month with MBKS councillors and staff to assess the problem.

“We tried to improve the pressure, but the problem continued as the incoming supply was insufficient,” he said.

After further discussions with Sarawak Water, MBKS agreed to a temporary reconnection as an immediate measure to improve supply to the food centre.

The water supply to the food centre and nearby shophouses was temporarily interrupted from 10am to 3pm today to facilitate the works. Sarawak Water also arranged water support for affected hawkers and food and beverage operators during the interruption.

After the works were completed, Wee returned to the food centre to check the water supply and speak with the hawkers.

“I came back after the works because I wanted to make sure the problem was addressed, not just that the work was completed,” he said.

The hawkers told Wee that the water pressure had improved after the reconnection and thanked MBKS and Sarawak Water for addressing the issue.

Wee said MBKS would continue monitoring the situation and work with Sarawak Water should further problems arise.

“Our hawkers depend on a reliable water supply to run their businesses, and we will continue to assist them,” he said.

He also thanked Sarawak Water, hawkers, traders and residents for their cooperation and patience during the works. — DayakDaily
