KUCHING (July 17): The Youth Communication Camp (YCC) is returning for its 12th edition this year, taking place from July 20-22 at Kem Putra Sentosa in Sematan.

Organised by Kuching Toastmasters Club (KTMC), this year’s theme of ‘Get a Life, Live the Dream’ focuses on public speaking, team building and leadership development.

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah highlighted the camp’s role in bridging societal gaps.

“Events like this build character and foster a diverse and cohesive Sarawak, closing the gap between different classes, races and religions,” he told a press conference held here yesterday together with the organising committee.

Abdul Karim went on to announce a RM100,000 grant from his ministry to support the event, enabling tickets to be priced at RM120 from the original RM700 per student.

Meanwhile, KTMC said camp participants will get to hone their public speaking skills via speech writing and speech delivery workshops.

A highlight of the camp’s programme is the ‘Lend Me Your Ears’ speech competition, offering a platform for participants to demonstrate their speaking abilities.

In addition to educational activities, YCC promises engaging team-building exercises, jungle trekking, and obstacle courses.

The ‘Oscar Night’ grand finale will feature musical performances, dramas and dances executed by the campers.
