KUCHING, July 17: Ministry of Works (MOW) will appoint a concession company through a privatisation agreement like other federal roads to carry out road maintenance work on the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah and Sarawak.
Its Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said a completed highway certainly requires good maintenance to ensure the safety and comfort of users.
“Answering this question in the Dewan Rakyat just now (July 17), I wish to stress that the Ministry will appoint a concession company through a privatisation agreement like other federal roads to carry out road maintenance work on the Pan-Borneo Highway which consists of Routine Work (all year round), Periodic Pavement Work, Periodic Non-Pavement Works and Emergency Works as approved from time to time.
“Through this appointment as well, the concessionaire company has to carry out the duties stipulated in the agreement as I have explained in detail earlier and if it fails, penalties will be imposed on the concessionaire company,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He also mentioned that the Ministry will allocate up to RM32.8 million per year for the implementation of routine maintenance on the Pan-Borneo Highway in stages according to the submission for maintenance after the project contract is fully completed.
“With the availability of up-to-date complaint channels such as the MyJalan Application, the Ministry can monitor and pay more attention to road damage complaints from federal road users and subsequently provide better and more effective maintenance services,” he added.
In the Dewan Rakyat earlier, Nanta was answering a question from Saratok MP Datuk Ali Biju on the Ministry’s long-term planning involving the operation of the highway, type of road maintenance and allocation to maintain the Pan Borneo Highway after the project is completed. — DayakDaily
