KUCHING, Aug 1:
A 40-year-old businesswoman from Padawan lost RM250,000 after falling victim to an online scammer she met through WhatsApp.
Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mancha Ata reported that the victim received a text message in May this year from an individual who identified himself as Chin Hao @ Evan.
After becoming acquainted, the victim fell in love with the suspect, who also promised to marry her.
“In June, the suspect offered the victim an investment scheme via the J.P. Morgan application, promising a five percent return profit, and instructed her to purchase shares by making payments to a bank account he provided,” Mancha explained in a press statement today.
Captivated by the promised profit, the victim made 23 transactions in stages to eight different bank accounts from June to July, totaling RM250,000.
The victim realised she had been scammed after failing to receive any profit as promised. — DayakDaily
