KUCHING (Aug 6): Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) last month kicked off its 50th anniversary celebration in Sarawak with the arrival of the ‘Petronas Homecoming Torch’ in Miri.
According to a news release, the torch, one of two, is on a nationwide tour titled ‘The Journey of the Twin Torches’ – paying homage to places and events celebrating the rich history, achievements and contributions of various locations within the Petronas ecosystem.
Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd Sarawak Asset (SKA) senior general manager Noriani Mohamad said the Homecoming Torch Journey signified a momentous milestone in the national oil and gas company’s 50-year legacy.
“It also represents the company’s transition from pioneers to innovators, emphasising the continuous passage of growth and excellence.
“It aims to inspire and motivate the next generation of Petronas leaders to carry forward the legacy and shape the future of the energy company,” she said.
She said the event is also a celebration of Petronas’ history, remarkable achievements, and significant contributions not only within the Petronas ecosystem but also within the vibrant tapestry of our community.
“It is a symbol of pride, belonging, and a sense of shared purpose among our employees, stakeholders, and the communities in our areas of operation.”
Noriani pointed out that Petronas has achieved numerous milestones throughout the decades, including the company’s establishment in 1974 and taking operatorship of the Miri Crude Oil Terminal in 1988.
“These achievements marked the start of our journey in pioneering solutions across the oil and gas value chain.
“Petronas will continue to be a strategic partner to Sarawak to preserve a thriving and conducive investment climate in Malaysia,” she said.
In conjunction with the Torch arrival, SKA held the ‘Road to Petronas 50 – Petronas Amazing Race’ in Miri.
The programme, participated by 25 teams that included government agencies and local authorities, successfully enhanced networking and collaboration between Petronas and its stakeholders in Miri.
Also present at the ceremony were the Miri mayor Adam Yii, Miri Resident Jamalie Busri, Petronas chief integrity officer Mohamad Zakuan Talib, vice president (Group Health Safety & Environment) Yong Sai Chung, and senior general manager (Group Strategic Relations & Communications) Arni Laily Anwarrudin.
