KUCHING, Jan 20: Back-to-back fires broke out in Kuching last night, with firefighters responding to an excavator fire and a car fire within an hour of each other, according to TVS.

The first incident involved an excavator at Lorong Stampin Tengah 7 here.

According to the Operations Control Centre (OCC) of the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), an emergency call was received at 11.32pm, prompting a team from BBP Kota Sentosa to be dispatched.

“The fire engine arrived at the location at 11.39pm, about seven kilometres from the station, and the fire was fully brought under control at 12.25am.

“The firefighting team found that the excavator was partially on fire and immediately carried out extinguishing works using one hose line,” the statement said.

The operation ended at 12.40am after the scene was confirmed safe.

Earlier the same night, a car parked along the roadside at Jalan Tai Shin Jar, Hui Sing, caught fire.

Bomba said it received a call at 10.26pm, and a team from BBP Batu Lintang was dispatched.

Firefighters arrived at the scene, about three kilometres away, and quickly brought the fire under control by 10.33pm.

The team found the vehicle nearly fully engulfed in flames and extinguished it using two hose lines, concluding the operation at 10.43pm.

No injuries were reported in either incident, and the causes of both fires are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
