BAU: The sacrifices of independence fighters should serve as an inspiration to perpetuate love and loyalty towards the country.

Bau District Officer Constantine Gerald David Jonas asserted that the love for a sovereign country is demonstrated through support for efforts to enhance patriotic spirit within the local community.

“Without the sacrifices of past fighters, it would be impossible to build an independent nation like today.

“The Jalur Gemilang raised today symbolises our unity in achieving the nation’s aspiration towards excellence and distinction.”

He said this when officiating the Bau-level Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang programme at the Multipurpose Hall, Kampung Peros on today (Aug 6).

As such, Constantine said that organising such programmes can foster a spirit of togetherness and strengthen the bonds between the convoy participants and local residents.

He also invited government agencies to promote tourism products in the Bau district, such as Bung Muan, known for recreational activities.

“Cooperation from all parties in promoting interesting areas in Bau can generate income for the community here,” he added.

On another note, Malaysian Information Department (JaPEN) Sarawak director and KMJG convoy leader Helmy Hamid urged all members of the Madani community to play an effective role as information and government policy disseminators.

“The JaPEN Sarawak will continue to cooperate with the local community in providing accurate and correct information to the people,” said Helmy.

He added that this cooperation can address the widespread fake news, especially on social media platforms nowadays.

Towards this end, he called on the Bau community to participate in the 1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang (1R1JG) Campaign to enliven this year’s National Month celebration.

The programme was enlivened with the presentation of the Jalur Gemilang to local department heads and Madani community leaders in the Bau area.

Also present were Bau District police chief DSP Jawai Francis Kempas; secretary of the Bau Municipal Council, Ong Chin Ping; Bau District information officer Sumardi Sugiman, and Madani Community leader of Kampung Peros, Sata Najoi.
