BINTULU: Exporters, including downstream pepper entrepreneurs, are advised to always focus on the quality of pepper used in the manufacturing of their products.
Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Datuk Chan Foong Hin hopes that the parties involved would be honest and responsible traders by not mixing Sarawak pepper with pepper from other countries where the quality produced is unsatisfactory and doubtful.
He said such action would not only harm the industry, especially pepper-growing operators, but will also affect the image of Sarawak Pepper or Malaysian Pepper itself in the eyes of the international pepper market.
“Don’t jeopardise the good name and reputation of Sarawak Pepper,” he said after visiting Green World Success Foodchains Sdn Bhd, here on Saturday.
In the meantime, Chan hopes that GWS Foodchains can explore the potential of the pepper commodity by further diversifying the production of pepper-based products that can be widely commercialised in the long term.
Green World Success Foodchains Sdn Bhd is a food product manufacturing company based in Bintulu and specialises in the production of spice products and cooking ingredients, including pepper products under the GWS Foodchains brand.
Also present were the director general of the Malaysian Pepper Board, Vincent Sawat and the secretary of the Cocoa and Pepper Industry Development Division, Ministry of Plantation and Commodities, Cheah Chee Fong.
