Father killed, son seriously injured in single-vehicle crash at Tanjung Skrang P-turn, Betong

The Perodua Axia involved in a fatal self-accident at the P-turn of Tanjung Skrang, Betong, which left one man dead and another seriously injured.

BETONG, June 11: A father was killed while his son sustained serious injuries after their car crashed into a road divider at the P-turn of Tanjung Skrang here today.

The incident involving a Perodua Axia was reported to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) at 1.46pm, with firefighters from Betong Fire and Rescue Station arriving at the scene at 2.07pm, located about 20km away.

According to Bomba, the crash was a self-accident after the vehicle struck the divider, leaving both victims trapped inside.

“The driver was confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry (KKM) personnel, while the passenger sustained serious injuries,” the department said in a statement.

Firefighters used rescue tools to extricate the injured passenger before placing him on a stretcher and handing him over to KKM personnel for initial treatment. He was later sent to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The body of the deceased driver was also removed from the vehicle and handed over to police for further action.

The operation was brought under control at 3.15pm and concluded at 3.20pm after cleanup works were completed.

The victims have been identified as Liang Sait, 64, the driver who was killed in the crash, and Stanley Embawa Liang, 30, the passenger who sustained serious injuries.

A total of six firefighters were deployed to the scene, supported by one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit.

Other agencies involved were the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Health Ministry (KKM). — DayakDaily
