Workers’ house destroyed by fire in Batu Niah

MIRI: A workers’ house in Pekan Batu Niah was completely destroyed by fire on Saturday morning (Sept 19), but no casualties were reported.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said it received an emergency call at 9.55 am and arrived at the scene six minutes later.

Firefighters found the non-permanent workers’ house, measuring approximately 30 by 40 feet, had been 100 per cent destroyed by the blaze.

A team of six firefighters from Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station responded with one fire and rescue tender (FRT) vehicle and deployed a hose reel to bring the fire under control at about 10.15 am.

No deaths or injuries were reported.

The operations also involved two personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police and two from Sarawak Energy.

Firefighters continued overhaul work at the scene after the blaze was brought under control, as part of efforts to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

The cause of the fire and the estimated value of property lost have not been disclosed.
