KUCHING (July 5): A 60-year-old woman, who was recently diagnosed with an unidentified illness and is now bedridden, received adult diapers and special milk supplements from Hope Place Kuching.

A press release yesterday said Paijam Saee lives with her son and his family at Kampung Haji Baki here.

The family is having trouble affording to buy all the special items Paijam needs, and such plight was brought to the attention of Hope Place by a concerned member of the public.

“According to her family, Paijam seldom gets sick, though she has high blood pressure. However, in March this year, she suddenly passed out at her workplace and had to be rushed to the hospital.

“Her low sodium level has been the only diagnosis that doctors have been able to make so far; further testing and diagnosis are still needed.

“Paijam is currently bedridden at home. She is physically too weak to even sit down.

“Her weight also has dropped drastically. Unable to take solid food, she can only have watery porridge or special milk supplements,” said the non-governmental organisation (NGO).

Paijam’s son Ilyasa, 36, and his wife have two school-going kids.

It is learnt that Ilyasa works as a road maintenance labourer and earns a minimum pay. Paijam’s daughter in-law Sofiah is the one who takes care of her.

“She is a hardworking lady. She continues to work despite being 60 years old. Since her workplace is at Satok, she stays at a hostel and works even when she’s sick,” said Sofiah admiringly.

According to Hope Place, Paijam has been a single mother since 2005 and had single-handedly taken care of five children, who are mostly married and living elsewhere.

Hope Place welcomes all donations and will issue receipts upon request.
