KUCHING, Jan 17: Kampung Sadir in upper Padawan is set to emerge as a prime tourist destination upon the completion of the Jalan Temong-Tepoi-Sadir road project, said Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Roads) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.
He said Phase One of the project, covering approximately five kilometres up to Kampung Sibakar, is currently underway, while the full alignment to Kampung Sadir spans about nine kilometres.
“The road project which is roughly about 9km to Kpg Sadir is progressing well, and once completed will turn the area into a prime tourist destination.
“This is among our initiatives to develop the area with beautiful g flora and fauna, to benefit the people economically from tourism,” Dr Jerip told reporters during Kpg Sadir Pesta Makan Durian 2026 at the village community hall today.
Previously, on Sept 3 last year, Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sindang Bada visited the Sarawak government-funded RM48 million project and was quoted as saying it is scheduled for full completion by August 2027.
Dr Jerip, who is also the Mambong assemblyman, added that two additional road projects in his constituency are currently in the tender stage.
These include the Biya Jaber Road project, costing RM24 million and funded by the Federal government, as well as the RM20 million Kampung Sapit road project under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).
Meanwhile, Dr Jerip also announced an allocation of RM50,000 for the Pesta Makan Durian, expressing hope that the festival could be organised on a larger scale next year to allow locals to sell their durians. – DayakDaily
