KUCHING (Aug 7): A joint patrol by the Malaysian and Indonesian soldiers managed to cripple an attempt to smuggle contraband goods worth RM342 near the Tebedu border on Aug 5.
The First Infantry Division in a statement today said the patrolling team found six black plastic bags at an illegal route 100 metres away from the Malaysia-Indonesia border at around 1.05pm.
“The six plastic bags contained 12 units of 10kg rice placed under a tree at the illegal route. No prohibited and dangerous items were found around the area,” it said.
A police report was later lodged at the Tebedu Police Station with all the confiscated items submitted to the Tebedu Customs for further action.
The Malaysian Armed Forces said it is committed to tightening controls at the border to ensure the country’s sovereignty against any form of illegal immigrant intrusion, smuggling activities, or cross-border crimes.
