Man arrested in Selangau for alleged online gambling operation

The man was arrested on suspicion of running illegal online gambling activities.

SELANGAU (Feb 15): A 60-year-old local man was arrested by police for allegedly running online gambling activities at a commercial premises in Pasar Baru Selangau on Feb 14.

According to Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, the arrest was carried out at about 1.30pm by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Mukah Police District Headquarters.

“The suspect was believed to be involved in online gambling activities.

“During the raid at a ground-floor unit of the premises, police found a mobile phone containing the 918KISS app, which is suspected to have been used for online gambling,” he said in a statement.

Muhamad Rizal added that the mobile phone was seized as evidence along with cash amounting to RM50.

The suspect and the seized items were taken to the Mukah police station for further action.

A check of the suspect’s record revealed that he had seven previous cases related to criminal and drug offences.

“A urine test conducted on him returned negative for drugs,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
