KUCHING, Jan 24: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) took concrete steps to strengthen public trust with the launch of the Community Integrity Building (CIB) Programme, centred on transparency, accountability and responsiveness.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the initiative reflects the council’s commitment to building a city that is clean, fair, honest and trusted by the people.
“Integrity is not a slogan. It is not a banner. It is not a line in a report,” he said during CIB Awareness Programme held at MBKS Auditorium today.
He highlighted that integrity is demonstrated through service delivery, response time, clear procedures, fair decision-making and respectful treatment of the public.
He said that the CIB Programme focuses on improving systems rather than assigning blame, with local authorities, agencies and the community working together to identify issues, assign responsibilities and resolve problems.
Addressing members of the Child Council, Wee said their involvement highlights the importance of grooming future leaders grounded in integrity.
“When we plant the values of honesty, responsibility and respect early in life, we shape a future generation that upholds integrity as a way of life, not merely a rule to follow,” he said.
“This is how integrity becomes culture — it starts young, grows with us and stays with us,” he added.
Through the CIB Programme, he said, the community becomes a partner rather than just a recipient of services.
He added that transparency, responsiveness and accountability are essential to good governance, while consistency in basic services is key to building public trust.
Wee also expressed appreciation to the Malaysia Integrity Institute (IIM), the Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNIONS), and the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG) for their continued support and for selecting MBKS as an active local authority under CIB Sarawak.
Among those present were Kota Sentosa Assemblyman Wilfred Yap, IIM Head of Corporate Sector Dr Mona Othman, Child Council members, agency representatives, councillors, corporate representatives, community leaders and participants. — DayakDaily
