KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) on today (July 30) introduced its official mascot named C-Tam, symbolising a more efficient management and service handling.

The black cat mascot is inspired by the official MPP logo, which features two black cats standing proudly beside a shield bearing the motto ‘efficient, clean, prosperous.’

This black cat also represents the council’s commitment to good management and service handling.

The new icon was unveiled at the closing of the Kuching City Cleanliness Month at the MPP level, officiated by Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang, representing Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian, at Batu Kawah Riverbank Park.

Chairman Tan Kai said it aligns with the goal of making Padawan, including Kuching in general, a clean and sustainable city.

“This effort can boost the economic status of our area as visitors will be attracted to come if there are comfortable places available at any time.

“We have seen many positive impacts with various exposures conducted throughout the cleanliness month.

“This MPP programme is comprehensive and inclusive, ensuring no group in our society is left out, including school children, to better understand the importance of cleanliness and recycling for our planet,” he said.

He added that the programme also allows traders to generate more income, and the public to earn from recyclable items through sales and competition participation.

“Moreover, MPP is often associated with city cleanliness issues, whether it is roads, shops, village streets, garbage collection, and so on.

“Although these are urban services provided by the council, community cooperation is more important in ensuring our city remains clean, healthy, and safe.

“If everyone works together to maintain city cleanliness, health, safety, and care for others, our area will undoubtedly become a better place to live,” he said.

He hoped the cleanliness month initiative, which ran throughout July, will continue and be practised in daily life.

“Among the activities we carried out this month include sculpture design competitions using recycled materials, solid waste segregation, plastic-free days, buy recycled goods campaigns, and many more.

“In fact, our recycling programme collected 14 tons of recyclable and electronic items, with the participation of 300 people,” he said.

As for the anti rabies vaccination, licensing, and microchipping programme for dogs held on July 20 at SJK Chung Hua Batu Kawa, he said it vaccinated 367 dogs, microchipped 165 dogs, and processed 164 licence applications.
