KUCHING, Feb 15: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will not be making his customary Chinese New Year visits this year as he continues to mourn the passing of his wife, the late Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.
In his Chinese New Year message, Abang Johari said he wished to convey his apologies to the Chinese community for not being able to join in the festive visits this year due to the recent bereavement.
“On a personal note, I must apologise to our Chinese friends that this year I won’t be making any Chinese New Year visits in view of the recent demise of my late wife, Datuk Amar Hajjah Juma’ani,” he said.
Despite his absence, the Premier conveyed his heartfelt wishes to the Chinese community, expressing hope that the new year would bring renewed success and prosperity to all Sarawakians.
“I would like to wish all our Chinese friends a happy Lunar New Year and may the Year of the Horse bring success, happiness and prosperity to all of us,” he added.
Juma’ani passed away at age 76 on June 23, 2025, corresponding to 26 Zulhijjah 1446H. She died at 3.34am at the Normah Medical Specialist Centre in Kuching and was buried at the Samariang Muslim Cemetery. — DayakDaily
