KUCHING, July 26: Kampung Sileng Dayak and Kampung Sileng Melayu in Lundu are set to benefit from the Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) following approval from Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
This decision comes in response to a proposal by Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan, who highlighted the need for expansion due to the growing population in the area.
“Azizul has proposed this development, and I approved it. God willing, we will help the community,” Abang Johari said.
He made these remarks during his speech prior to inaugurating the 2024 Lundu Regatta and Batang Kayan Festival, which took place today at the Lundu Waterfront in Lundu.
Azizul, in his earlier remarks, emphasised the increasing density of Kampung Sileng, including Kampung Sileng Dayak, as a result of population growth.
He appealed to the government to implement the SPK to accommodate this expansion.
“I sincerely hope that the government can consider implementing a SPK for the Sileng Dayak and Sileng Melayu areas and their surroundings,” he said.
He expressed confidence that these development projects would not only alleviate crowding but also position Lundu as a premier eco-tourism destination, thereby boosting the local economy.
Azizul further called on the community, including residents of Lundu, to support the government’s efforts in enhancing the area’s eco-tourism appeal. — DayakDaily
