Rainy skies expected in S’wak as Fire Horse gallops into CNY

KUCHING, Feb 16: As this year’s Chinese New Year ushers in the fiery Year of the Fire Horse, several divisions across Sarawak are expected to experience wet weather during the first two days of the festive celebrations.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia), the first day of Chinese New Year (Feb 17) is forecast to begin with isolated thunderstorms in several areas, including Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah and Kapit during the morning hours.

Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate further later in the day, with rain predicted to affect all divisions across Sarawak in the afternoon and continuing into the night.

As for the second day (Feb 18), isolated thunderstorms are expected in Kapit in the morning, all divisions in the afternoon, while evening and night showers are likely to concentrate in Miri and Limbang.

The wet weather outlook may affect outdoor celebrations, house visits, and festive travel, particularly during peak visiting hours.

Members of the public are advised to plan their journeys carefully, allow extra travel time and take necessary precautions when driving in rainy conditions. — DayakDaily
