Kabong assemblyman Mohd Chee Kadir noted that the project also has significant potential to boost the tourism industry.

“The main purpose of the Sarawak Reef Ball Project is to transform the socioeconomic status of the population, while simultaneously increasing fishery resources in Sarawak waters by creating Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs),” he said.

He made these remarks while officiating the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) Engagement Session with Stakeholders under the Tukun People’s Project Bebola Gasa Dua in Kabong.

Mohd Chee explained that the project will further support the tourism industry by providing new scuba diving and fishing areas.

“This initiative will create blue economic opportunities for Sarawak through the Coral Mariculture Pilot Project,” he added.

He also urged the local community to engage in the sustainable management of the marine ecosystem through the Tukun Reef Ball project.

Among those present at the event were Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri, deputy general manager (conservation) Dr Melvin Terry Gumal, Kabong District Officer Tahir Sharee, and Kabong District Fishermen’s Association (PNK) manager Sahariya Tahot.

In a separate development, during the Randau Bersama-Sama session with SK Kampung Alit Management, Mohd Chee provided updates on several projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2024.

He announced that the Sarawak government has approved an upgrade project for the SK Kampung Alit Open Hall with an allocation of RM250,000.

Additionally, further upgrading work has been allocated RM200,000.

He also contributed a RM7,000 Small Rural Project (MRP) grant to the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) of SK Kampung Alit.
