TANJUNG MANIS: Over 50 longhouses along the Tanjung Manis-Sibu road are poised to benefit from a new water supply project funded with an allocation of RM264 million.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS) and Semop assemblyman Datuk Abdullah Saidol said this initiative will provide water access to the longhouses stretching from Sibu to Bawang Assan up to Simpang Ketam, which currently lack reliable water supply.
“This project has been approved by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. This effort aims to address the water supply challenges faced by rural communities.
“Following the implementation of this project, we expect all the longhouses along the Sibu-Tanjung Manis road to receive a stable water supply,” he said.

Abdullah further said there are plans for constructing a road from Mupong Muara, Mupong Ulin, to Kampung Sebenak, connecting through Sungai Kilas to the Sibu-Tanjung Manis road.
“This RM56 million project is currently in the site acquisition phase and is expected to begin by mid-next year,” he said.
