KUCHING, June 30: The Sarawak government has approved an allocation of RM25 million to establish a new Centre of Digital Excellence at Curtin University in Miri.
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the new centre will also attract international students to the university.
“Currently, the university not only accommodates Sarawakian students but also students from other Asian countries, which enables them to engage with students from abroad and learn to speak English while enriching their experience.
“With that said, I am hopeful that the new Centre of Digital Excellence will encompass the fields of engineering, energy, artificial intelligence (AI), and data centres, which will attract students from abroad to explore new knowledge here,” he said during Curtin University’s 25th Anniversary Gala Night held at Pullman Hotel in Miri on June 29.
He added that Sarawak-born children are very fortunate that the State government will be providing free education in 2026, which is subject to eligibility.
“This initiative will benefit over 25,000 prospective students, ensuring that financial constraints would not prevent our youth from pursuing higher education,” he said. — DayakDaily
