KUCHING, Feb 15: The Sarawak government will continue backing football development in the State, providing structured opportunities for local players to improve their skills and progress toward professional careers.
According to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, ongoing support for State leagues and tournaments allows young players to gain experience and compete at higher levels.
“The league will continue to be supported because we want to see more Sarawakian talent emerge as professional football players in the future,” he said during his speech at the Piala Premier Sarawak final at Stadium Negeri Sarawak today.
The inaugural Piala Premier final saw Bintulu FA defeat Samarahan FA 3–1, with Abang Johari saying the competition provides a structured platform for players from across divisions to improve their skills and prepare for higher-level competitions.
He also highlighted the performance of Kuching City FC, which recently reached the semi-finals of the Piala Malaysia after defeating DPMM FC, demonstrating that Sarawak teams can compete nationally. — DayakDaily
